About me

My name is John Walther.

I’m a digital forensics analyst\investigator working at a traditional accounting and consulting firm in the Midwest. I perform digital forensic investigations, incident response, and malware analysis for my firm’s clients. In addition to this, I also work on traditional security engagements including social engineering and vulnerability assessments.

So, why the blog you ask?

Well, for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, it’s my attempt to join the conversation. The wealth of information others in the field have shared through their blogs, websites, RSS feeds, and Twitter accounts has increased my knowledge and helped me improve my skills. My hope is that this blog might serve others in the same way.

Secondly, much like taking notes in a class encourages better memory retention, writing about a topic really cements the information in my mind. There’s nothing like writing about something to make it really stick. So, writing about a topic will be a means for me to dig deeper, increase my knowledge, and improve my own skills.

And now, a word from the firm Dewey, Cheatem, and Howe S.C.:
